Help Trim the WAG’s Holiday Tree

Get your holiday season off to a wonderful start at the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s third annual holiday tree-trimming party from 2 to 5pm on Sunday, December 2.  The event is free (regular pricing applies to visit exhibitions). It’s a fun-filled afternoon for the whole family. Warm up with a hot cup of cocoa and cookies. Bring your camera and take your picture with Santa. Play a host of holiday games. Enjoy live jazzy holiday tunes. Best of all, the WAG elves will be on hand to help you create your own artful Christmas and Hanukkah ornaments to hang on the tree. Make trimming the WAG’s tree part of your family’s holiday tradition!

“The WAG is always looking for new and exciting ways to connect with youth and families in our community,” says Art Educator Rachel Baerg. “Youth Programs at the WAG are continually growing and expanding and include quality art classes, Family Sundays, children’s Birthday pARTies, as well as week-long Art Camps for kids during the Summer and Spring Break. This unique tree decorating event is yet another way of drawing families in to experience all that the WAG has to offer.”

Be sure to take time to visit the Gallery Shop. It’s full of seasonal items—glass and fabric tree decorations,  candles,  cake-decorating kits, and one-of-a-kind gifts. The Shop also has a limited edition WAG100 clothing line—t-shirts, hoodies, tanks, and sweats, for adults and children—screen-printed with past WAG exhibition posters. Celebrating the Gallery’s 100th anniversary, the WAG100 line also includes travel mugs, pencil crayons, sketch kits, tote bags screen-printed with Drum Dance by Inuit artist Luke Anguhadluq, and decadent chocolate bars commissioned from Winnipeg chocolatier Constance Popp.

“The WAG’s tree-trimming party is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your family in a creative atmosphere,” says Exeuctive Director Stephen Borys. “Attendance is increasing each year and we are very pleased to see that people are making it part of their holiday celebrations.”
