WAG Receives BIZ Achievement Award

The Winnipeg Art Gallery has received the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Achievement Award for Outstanding Long-term Contributions to Downtown.

“Downtown Winnipeg is proving to be quite the multicultural and artistic hub in our city and in Canada, with destinations like the Winnipeg Art Gallery,’ says Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “The WAG continues to positively shape and re-energize our downtown, and with the upward momentum our downtown is experiencing in terms of revitalization, the arts and the WAG play an important role in making our downtown a vibrant place to work, live, and play—showcasing and celebrating the best and brightest of contemporary and historical Manitoba, Canadian, and international artists.”

Celebrating its 100th anniversary, the Winnipeg Art Gallery has put Winnipeg on the map with its innovative vision, impressive exhibitions, and on-going dedication to downtown Winnipeg. The WAG has grown to become one of Canada’s most important art galleries with a collection of over 25,000 artworks, including the largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art in the world. It has consistently promoted the work of Manitoba artists around the world with exhibitions traveling to major cities in Europe and North and South America. It has also brought Manitobans the work of artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, Auguste Rodin, Norman Rockwell, and others. Through its guided tours, films, concerts, school programs, talks and lectures, and events such as Nuit Blanche and Art & Soul, the WAG is the cultural centre of Winnipeg, bringing in thousands of visitors every year.

“In September we received the City of Winnipeg Community Service Award and now this,” says WAG Executive Director Stephen Borys. “We are immensely proud of our contribution and achievements over the past century and are very pleased to have them recognized.”
