Our Filipino Trainee Really Enjoyed Herself

Authored by: on October 8, 2010

Hi, I’m Girlie D. Cacao and I came from the Philippines. I arrived here in Canada on June 20, 2010. When I came here I didn’t know where I would start. Then I heard one of my cousins talk about the Employment Solutions for Immigrant Youth training program, who help the new immigrants to look for a job. Fortunately, I was chosen to be a part of the eight-weeks training program. After the training, we have an internship which expose us to a Canadian workplace.

With the helped of ESIY I would say that it is my great honour and privilege to have my internship training at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. I really loved my time here because of the different forms of art that I have seen and I am fascinated that all is really here. When I got my first tour, I was really excited because I know that I am going to learn a lot of things. Aside from that, I was assisting with the Grade 9 students from Balmoral High School. I am so thankful that Deborah gave me time to be one of the members of her tour. In terms of experience as a tour guide here she was almost the longest years in service and with that I am really sure that she already knew a lot of things here in the gallery. When I got my tour, I was amazed at the students because they really enjoyed the tour. They wrote down their feelings and opinions about the particular subject. I also saw their colourful drawings with their favourites subject in the museum.

I can say that all the tour guides here are very wonderful and knowledgeable about the tour that they give to the visitors who want to explore the beauty of the museum. You will be fascinated and enchanted with it.

I am glad too, that all of the staff here are very approachable and kind. You can easily build rapport with them. I am so thankful to them because in my time here, even if it was for a short time, I felt at home and well taken care of. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Aline and Rachel for being very supportive of me and also to Jeannine who was always there to open the door for me and also to Mike and all the tour guides and the staff of Winnipeg Art Gallery.
Once again thank you and “ mabuhay!”.
