WAG Organizes Bird Watching Excursion with Rudolf Koes
Break out the binoculars! The Winnipeg Art Gallery invites you on a bird watching excursion with world renowned birder Rudolf Koes on Saturday, April 30 from 9:15 to 11am. It’s all part of the programming for Erika Lincoln: The Singing Condition, an exhibition which is on at the WAG until June 12. The walk will end back at the WAG where you can explore the Erika Lincoln exhibition after a short introduction by Art Educator Anna Wiebe. The bird watching excursion is included with Gallery admission. Tour spots are limited, so to reserve please call 789.0516
Starlings that sound like crosswalks? Nests built from cell phone parts? The Singing Condition explores the relationship between birds and the urban environment as experienced by the artist in her own back lane. Now you can discover Winnipeg’s birds for yourself with birding guru Rudolf Koes.
“Rudolf has conducted annual birding/nature tours to Churchill since 1980, and in recent years he has also led tours in southern Manitoba, the High Arctic, Colorado/Utah, Costa Rica and India. He has traveled all continents in search of birds and other natural wonders. Recently he co-authored and illustrated the highly-acclaimed The Birds of Manitoba and he is currently involved in Manitoba’s next bird-related undertaking, the Manitoba Breeding Bird Atlas,” says WAG Educator Anna Wiebe. “This time he turns his impeccable eyes and ears to Winnipeg’s downtown core. This walk is not to be missed!”
Approaching its centenary in 2012, the Winnipeg Art Gallery is Canada’s oldest civic art gallery and Manitoba’s leading visual arts institution. With a collection of over 24,000 objects spanning many centuries and cultures – including the world’s largest collection of contemporary Inuit art – the WAG is constantly moving between the historical and the contemporary in an effort to engage a growing public with the power of art in our lives.
