WAG Director Selected for the Getty’s Museum Leadership Institute 2011

Museum leaders from around the world will explore their evolving field at the Getty Leadership Institute’s MLI Program from June 18 to July 8, and Dr. Stephen Borys, Executive Director of the Winnipeg Art Gallery, will be one of them.

“I am delighted to have been selected to spend three weeks at the Getty to focus on museum leadership, strategy, and policy development,” says Borys. “This program is well known and respected in international museum circles, and I look forward to acquiring new perspectives and tools to better serve the greater cultural community.”

The Getty Leadership Institute at Claremont Graduate University (GLI at CGU) is convening thirty senior leaders from prominent museums in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East, to engage in the renowned Museum Leadership Institute (MLI), in which participants explore the increasingly complex challenges museums face. Participants were chosen for the program based on their ability to influence policy and effect change at their institutions. This year’s MLI will be held, for the first time, at Claremont Graduate University’s beautiful tree-lined campus in California. Now in its 33rd year, MLI is the world’s foremost professional development program for senior museum executives, offering intensive executive education. This is borne out through the geographic diversity of the museums represented and the calibre of the program’s participants who are selected based on their ability to influence policy and effect change at their institutions.

“The WAG is honoured that our Director, Dr. Stephen Borys, has been selected to attend the Getty Leadership Institute,” says Naomi Levine, WAG Board President. “Since Dr. Borys has assumed the leadership of the WAG, he has worked diligently, with great success, to spread our reputation and promote partnerships both nationally and internationally. This is yet another opportunity for him to work with the best senior museum executives from around the world, to further not only his professional growth but also that of the WAG.”
