Nuit Blanche at the WAG Celebrates Art All Night Long
Can 4,500 people be wrong? Not likely! That’s how many people thronged the Winnipeg Art Gallery at last year’s Nuit Blanche, an all night arts extravaganza. And with this being the WAG’s 100th year, the party will be bigger and better than ever, running from 6pm, Saturday, September 29 through to 6am, Sunday, September 30.
The evening kicks off at 7pm with the public opening of Winnipeg Now, our first major Centennial exhibition, featuring 13 hot young contemporary artists all of whom live or have lived in Winnipeg. Several of the artists featured in the exhibition will take part in a panel discussion at 8pm.
The evening (and morning) also includes a patio on the Gallery’s front ramp with music by Alexa Dirks, Les Jpes, This Hisses, and Reverend Rambler. Exegesis, a performance by Michael Dudeck Witchdoctor. Random Acts of Opera by the Little Opera Company. Local designers will showcase looks from their fall/winter collections in Luminosity—a midnight fashion show on the rooftop presented by Winnipeg Fashion Incubator. Graffiti Arts Programming will be organizing a collaborative mural painting project. And you don’t want to miss Synthetica—the latest interactive installation by PO-MO where the audience’s movements create an ever-changing mural of epic proportions.
“We were absolutely thrilled that almost 5,000 people participated in our Nuit Blanche night last year,” says WAG Executive Director Stephen Borys. “This year we have even more activities going on, outside the building as well as inside, so all our visitors will be able to enjoy a spectacular all-night party. Whether they come at 6pm or midnight, there will be something to entertain them.”
Nuit Blanche is part of the national Culture Days events.
