Discover the Story Behind the WAG’s Largest Exhibition in 100 Years

What is involved in producing an exhibition of 110 master artworks drawn from 30 exhibitions across Canada and the US? You can find out by reading the publication accompanying the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s blockbuster exhibition, 100 Masters: Only in Canada, which opens May 11.

The publication opens with a fascinating essay by Stephen Borys, Director & CEO, and curator of the exhibition, discussing his two-year sojourn across the country, meeting with other gallery directors and curators to choose only the finest works for the exhibition. The stunning 276-page publication also contains full-page reproductions of all the 110 works in the exhibition, along with a detailed history of the artist and the work.

“My journey was an amazing one and I cannot begin to express my gratitude to the lenders to the exhibition,” says Borys. “These museums, represented by their directors, curators, registrars, and collections staff, all rank as co-organizers by virtue of their tremendous support. I am in their debt for their collective efforts and collegial spirit.”

On Sunday, May 26, at 2pm, Dr. Borys will be giving a talk, 10,000 Kilometres: 100 Masters, an in-depth look at the story behind the exhibition. He will also be signing copies of the publication which is available in the Gallery  Shop for $58.

You can also read more about Dr. Borys’ adventures in his blogs on 100masters.wag.ca

Three-hundred copies of the 100 Masters: Only in Canada publication have also been donated to school libraries throughout Winnipeg. This donation was made possible in part through the generosity of Friesens Corporation.

BMO is the Presenting Sponsor for 100 Masters: Only in Canada.
