Looney Tunes, Pancakes, and Pyjamas at the WAG

When you jump out of bed on Saturday, April 3, leave your pjs on and come down to the Winnipeg Art Gallery for a pancake breakfast, Looney Tunes screenings, and a visit to the exhibition The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons.

Breakfast will be served in Eckhardt Hall from 9am to 11pm. Cartoon screening will play continuously in the Muriel Richardson Auditorium. Cost for the breakfast, the films, and entry to the exhibition is $10 for WAG members, $18 for adults, $16 for seniors and students, $14 for youth (aged 6-12), free for children under 6, and $33 for a family (up to 2 adults and 4 children under 18).

“How exciting is it to come to the WAG in your pyjamas and watch the cartoons you enjoyed as a kid?” says Special Events Co-ordinator Doren Roberts. “If your own children aren’t familiar with Bugs, Elmer, and their friends, now’s the time to introduce them to these cartoon icons.”

The Warner Bros. cartoon studio produced the finest, funniest, and most inventive animated shorts ever made. The Hollywood studio developed and perfected the kind of antic, irreverent, street-smart humour that has characterized much of short-subject animation ever since. Along the way, the Warner shop won six Academy Awards, and created more cartoon stars than any other studio, including Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Bugs Bunny, and Tweety and Sylvester.

The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons explores the elaborate creative process that supported the making of these classic cartoons, using examples of Warner Bros. production art from the 1930’s through the 1960’s.

The pancake breakfast is generously sponsored by The Original Pancake House and Storm Catering.

Media sponsors for The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons are the Winnipeg Free Press, Pattison Outdoor Advertising, CTV, and 102.3 Clear FM.
