Holman artist Agnes Nanogak Goose created hundreds of drawings from 1964 until her death in 2001. A total of 159 of her drawings were rendered into prints for the Holman Eskimo Co-operative’s annual print collections. The WAG mural was commissioned by the Northern Images store in Yellowknife in 1971 and was displayed in its mall-front window until 1996 when it was acquired by the Gallery. Nanogak Goose believed it was important to remember the traditional stories and lifestyle, and her drawings reflect this perspective. Some of her drawings and stories have been published in two books, Tales from the Igloo (1972) and More Tales from the Igloo (1986).
