WAG Studio

WAG Studio is one of Canada's oldest gallery-run art schools. Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that art education is a vital component in the personal development of individuals at any age. Our programs are taught by practicing artists who share their enthusiasm, insight, and highly developed skills.

We are committed to providing excellence in art instruction by offering:

  • A variety of classes for children, teens, and adults
  • Tours and discussions of current WAG exhibitions
  • Experienced artist instructors
  • Seven separate, well-lit studio spaces
  • Spring, summer, fall, and winter class sessions
  • Weekend workshops for adults, often reflecting current WAG exhibitions

History: Saturday Morning Art Classes began in 1937 and are still conducted each fall and winter in our studios, sponsored by Winnipeg School Division. In 1972 and 1973, summer programs were organized for the general public. They were so popular that a limited number of classes were offered in fall 1973. By the early 1990s, WAG Studio had grown to such an extent that a larger space was needed. In the fall of 1995, we moved out of the WAG basement and into our new home in two adjacent buildings, allowing us to expand our offerings and develop into one of Canada’s largest and most successful gallery schools.‚Äč As we work to develop the new Inuit Art Centre, the current WAG Studio facility will be replaced by a new state-of-the-art building to house art classes, as well as the Gallery's celebrated collection of contemporary Inuit art and related programs.

Winter registration opens November 24
