July 11-15 or August 8-12 - Flying with Chagall • Up, up and away! Get inspired by the works of Chagall and create your own magnificent dreamscape.
July 18-22 or August 15-19 - Kicking it with Clay • Sculptures, sculptures everywhere. Get inspiration from sculptures in the Gallery and experiment with clay to make your own fired work of art.
August 2-5 (Short Week) - The Painted Selfie • Take a selfie like you never thought you could… and discover who you really are.
Using the selfie is a contemporary portrait, kids will take a look at portraits in the Gallery, including the Karel Funk exhibition, for inspiration. Encouraged to think about how selfies and portraiture are used today compared to the past, students will think of their own personal attributes to include in their painting as they plan and execute a painting. Photography activities, inside and outside, will be included and will be used to help inspire their selfie painting. Students will take a field trip to the Children’s Museum and to the WAG shop/workshop space at the Forks.
July 25-29 - Mural Madness • Create a collaborative mural at the WAG Studio and make new friends.
Teens will create a mural on one of the interior walls of the WAG Studio building run by professional mural artist Michel St.Hilaire (Bilingual). The teens will visit WAG exhibition to gain inspiration for their collaborative mural and they will also see slide shows of Michel’s murals and visit murals in areas surrounding the WAG. A field trip to Manitoba Theatre Centre back stage will take students on a behind the scenes look where sets are created.
August 22-26 - Daydreaming with Chagall • Discover Surrealism and make art that transcends reality.
Teens will use similar techniques as Chagall to create their own Chagall inspired artwork. Chagall’s work is often based on surrealism and so the teens will explore this concept of surrealism through fun and interactive games and art making activities. During their fieldtrip to The Forks, teens will explore different surreal concepts such as juxtaposition, dislocation, and scale and they will learn to use these concepts within sketches while drawing en pleine air.
