The WAG has just kicked off this year’s Annual Appeal. In its honour I thought I should clarify just what the Annual Appeal is. The Annual Appeal is the WAG’s yearly fundraising campaign. The funds raised help to ensure that the WAG can continue to offer great exhibitions and programming for years to come.
Many of my friends and family are shocked to discover that the WAG is not drowning in funds! Although we hold thousands of valuable works of art in the vaults those works are part of Winnipeg’s public collection which is held in trust for the citizens of Manitoba, meaning we can’t sell a Tom Thomson when we need computer upgrades or want to hire more staff! The WAG is a non-profit organization and consequently we rely on the generosity of private donations.
The WAG has been extremely lucky over the last 100 years to be supported by such a devoted and charitable community. Donations can be made to five different areas, exhibitions, permanent collection, youth programs, endowment, or the area of greatest need. The lovely pie chart above depicts the areas to which last year’s donors gave.
What questions do you have about fundraising at the WAG? What part of the WAG’s operations is most important to you?
