WAG’s Family Sunday Takes You to Cuba

Spend a cold January day in Cuba at the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Family Sunday on January 10. Admission is free all day from 11am to 5pm, and activities take place from 1:30 to 4pm.

Discover the dynamic visual art and culture of this South American country as you wander through the exhibition Cuba Avant-Garde: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Farber Collection. Munch on tasty Cuban food. Try playing authentic Cuban instruments, courtesy of Long and McQuade. Ger your toes tapping with the hot Latin dance group Cubanissimo. The result of all this inspiration? Creating your own art in the WAG Studio building.

“January is the perfect time to have a Family Sunday with a Latin American theme,” says Youth Program Co-ordinator Aline Frechette. “With the food, the music, the art, we are creating an authentic Cuban experience that can be enjoyed by all the family. Be sure to bring a sunhat!”

Cuba Avant-Garde: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Farber Collection examines the rich and varied history of Cuban art over the past three decades. The work covers a broad range of media, including paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculptures, and installations.
