This delicate and whimsical stencil print is one of the most familiar to have been published by the Pangnirtung Eskimo Co-operative (now the Uqqurmiut Centre for Arts and Crafts). It was the cover graphic for the catalogue of the 1977 landmark touring exhibition The Inuit Print, organized by the National Museum of Man, now the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Quebec. The work was printed by the artist’s brother, Thomasee Alikatuktuk, who is also a noted graphic artist from Pangnirtung. Ananaisie Alikatuktuk created hundreds of drawings (now housed in the Uqqurmiut Centre archives), as well as sculpture, such as an unusual carving in the WAG collection of the mythical female sea spirit, Taleelayuk, swimming under a hunter in his kayak and lifting both out of the water.
