Summer Art Camp

Weeklong, Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm (early drop-off from 8:30am and pick up until 5pm)
Campers will explore the gallery exhibitions, create art with professional artists, go on exciting field trips, and stage their own mini-exhibition at the end of the week. Free pizza on Friday.

(Ages 6-10) Kicking it with Clay

Sculptures sculptures everywhere.  Take it all in and experiment with clay to make a fired work of art. Art class is run by Erika Hanneson a known professional clay artist.  They will be making a fired sculpture that they will also paint with true professional glazes.  They will have time on the clay wheel to experience that.  The field trip is to the Children’s Museum and to the new WAG shop/workshop space at the Forks. They will be bussed there and back with a charter school bus.  As with all camps, they have free pizza on Friday and a mini-exhibition of their work on Friday afternoon. All camps go into the WAG galleries at least twice to see sculptures and get inspired by the art.

(Ages 11-15) Teen Daydreaming with Chagall

Discover Surrealism and make art that transcends reality.  Get inspired by the works of Chagall and create your own magnificent dreamscape.  Teens can be inspired by two spectacular and colourful exhibitions at the WAG featuring the works of the famous artist Marc Chagall.  Teens will use similar techniques as Chagall to create their own artwork inspired by Chagall.  Chagall’s work is often based on surrealism and so the children will explore this concept and learn how to make surreal art.  Every camp gets free pizza on Friday and a mini-exhibition of their artwork will be displayed to parents on Friday afternoon.  All camps go into WAG galleries at least twice during the week.

Children & Teens

10 week session

Child and teen classes are structured to accommodate the abilities of different age levels. These fun-filled classes develop skills in various media, fostering creativity and imagination. Artist instructors are paired with classes based on experience and area of specialization. Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions each consist of 10 classes on Saturdays or weekdays in the early evening.

This course gives an introduction to basic techniques and fundamental concepts that artists use to create succcessful drawings and paintings. Students will develop observational skills, use their imaginations, and visit WAG exhibitions.

(Ages 10-14) Animation

This course provides a beginners understanding of animation process and techniques. Students will work with claymation and then other styles of animation if time allows.   They will work on developing their own stories, characters, and designs to complete basic animation projects with emphasis placed on their individual creativity.  The course begins with some time spent on developing characters and backgrounds in order to eventually move to the animating stage of telling a short story.   Throughout the course a variety of animated films will be shown and discussed in order to deepen an understanding of animated film and what types of animation can be found, with emphasis on unique styles and techniques..  A DVD of students completed projects will be provided at the end of the session.

Develop drawing skills as you create your own fashion designs. Create one of a kind jewelry, handbags, or sneakers. Restyle clothes with DIY flare, using fabric paint, printmaking, hand - sewn embellishments, or creative restructuring.  This course may require the students to provide their own sneakers and cast-off clothing to experiment with as they explore the world of Fashion Art.
