The Mariachi Ghost is a mystifying theatrical up beat project that makes the soul wonder and the body move. It originated in Winnipeg in 2009. a creation of filmmaker/graphic novelist/ musician Jorge Requena and his brother, multi instrumentalist virtuoso Cesar Requena. Mariachi Ghost is a mixture of Mexican traditional music and progressive rock, touching on funk, acid jazz, and even a bit of metal.
The tone is an ominous rhythmic mystifying experience where one feels both sadness an elation. "It is how we celebrate death in Mexico," says Jorge Requena. "You could say feel the day of the death in late summer."
After successfully conquering Winnipeg's best stages, the band begun seeking promotion and put out their first EP Machete. Legendary producer Terry Mcbride ( NETTWERK Music Group) described them as "super cool" after seeing the footage of one of their sessions.
