Experience the satisfaction of crafting something with your hands alongside like-minded adventurers. You don’t need to be a practising artist to participate...just come, relax, and have fun!

MakerLab: Leather Utility Pouch

Jan Castillo of Red Herring Supply Co. will guide you through the process of making your own beautiful and functional three pocket leather utility pouch. Made from vegetable tanned, hand stitched leather, your leather pouch will be approximately 4” x 7” x 1/2”, featuring brass snaps and one rivet.  All materials and instructions are provided. A great gift for dads, grads or for yourself!

Ages 14 and up. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or gaurdian.

Space is limited. Advanced registration required. Revenue from MakerLab is used to fund programming for children, teens, and adults at WAG Studio.

Tara Garcia of Mama Pacha is bringing her nourishing goodies to WAG Studio! Learn about the healing properties of natural ingredients and use herbal-infused oils, essential oils, local beeswax, and coconut oil to make three custom skincare goodies: a healing salve, a deep cleansing salt scrub, and a moisturizing lip balm. These made-by-you products will help rejuvenate hard-working hands, feet, and your whole body. All materials and instruction provided.

Workshops are designed in conjunction with current exhibitions or to present media and techniques not covered in our regular classes. Students will view the work on display and work hands on with an instructor in the studio. This is a great opportunity to to stimulate ideas, explore a medium and deepen understanding of artists and their art.

Painting

Prerequisite: Drawing 1 or equivalent experience
This beginning course in acrylic painting introduces you to basic colour theory and handling of acrylic paints. You’ll work from still life arrangements, do colour exercises and learn about basic elements such as compotision and shpae, and how colour is used to create a sense of depth. Critiques will help you gain an understanding of what is involved in making a painting work well.

By focusing on colour while using media such as oil pastels, chalk pastels, art sticks and other materials, you will develop your ability to depict multiple aspects of nature. Introduction to Watercolour

Whether you’re re-visiting an interest from an earlier time in your life or starting from the beginning, this course will suit your needs. Explore the various materials and techniques needed to begin your own journey into the world of  watercolour. Learn how to apply a wash and create a 3D image on a 2D surface using both wet-in-wet and glazing techniques. Composition, negative space, colour theory and colour’s role in evoking mood and atmosphere will also be covered. Also included; instruction on drawing media and techniques, creating works that combine ink line with watercolour, and an introduction to traditional and contemporary painters in the medium.

DIY Screen Printing

Mono and Block Printing

Learn to make an original fine art print using two methods. Block printmaking is the process of creating one or several images by carving onto a block or plate, which is then inked and pressed onto a sheet of paper. With a monoprint, the ink or paint is applied directly to the plate and pressed onto paper to create a singular image. Explore various techniques used in creating multi-coloured block prints and mono prints.  Students have the option to push the process further by combining prints with other media to create a collage.
