The WAG Student Art Board had a wonderful Drawing Party on March 1o at the WAG. The Board invited other high school students to join them in doing what they love to do….draw. Twenty-one people came and the board members showed them through the galleries to get inspired by the art. After coffee and cookies, they all went to the Studio Building and started drawing. It was pretty wonderful to see the students take turns posing with peacock feathers, big beat up tubas, and mannequin arms to make the pose more interesting. Stunning to see how beautifully their drawings were rendered using charcoal, coloured chalk, and fancy erasers that remove charcoal from paper to reveal the white underneath. Of course the music was on and chatter was constant. I think the nicest part was that the students got a chance to meet other students their own age, who don’t go to their school, who love art as much as they do. The Drawing Party really succeeded in bringing teen artists together.
Now it’s time to get ready for the Painting Party on March 24 from 5:30 to 8pm. Everyone will be able to work on a large collaborative painting on canvas. There will also be canvas paper and paint squirting, some cylinder tubes, and neon and metallic paint for everyone to share—plenty of materials to work with for everyone to make something unique and painterly. All high school students are welcome. Please join us for another creative evening!
