Art Eats Offers Dinner at Storm Bistro and a Winnipeg Art Gallery Exhibition Tour
Looking for a different night out? How about a delicious dinner in a rooftop restaurant followed by a tour of an art exhibition? The Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Art Eats offers a three-course dinner at Storm Bistro, followed by a tour of the exhibition Winnipeg Now. It takes place from 6 to 9pm on Thursday, October 25 and November 29.
Winnipeg has an international reputation as the art-making centre of Canada and Winnipeg Now shows why. The 13 artists represented either live or have lived in Winnipeg and their work will surprise and challenge Gallery visitors. Artists include filmmaker Guy Maddin filming in the Gallery in the newest stage of his Lost Films project. Shawna Dempsey and Lorri Millan will be performing unconventional readings from a story-telling corner. Then there is the magical forest of KC Adams’ porcelain forest of corporate-lit trees. Michael Dudeck links the conventions of museum display with ritual performance in his role as a queer artist witchdoctor, while Kent Monkman uses the diorama format of the natural history museum to investigate his own background as a gay, aboriginal artist. Other artists in the show are Sarah Anne Johnson, Dominique Rey, Paul Butler, Rodney LaTourelle, Marcel Dzama, Jennifer Stillwell, and Daniel Barrow.
Tickets for Art Eats are $40 for WAG members and $45 for non-members. Gratuity is included although wine and spirits are not. Tickets are available online at wag.ca; by calling 204.786.6641, ext. 227; or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Previous Art Eats programs have sold out, so early purchase is advised.
