Painting, Works on Paper

In addition to multimedia painting, Tim Whiten’s oeuvre includes drawing, sculpture, and installation work. The artist’s father was a carpenter, and his work often aims at unpacking the deep metaphorical significance of human labour. Whiten is interested in employing naturally occurring substances, such as tea and juice, as art media. As seen in the WAG piece, the artist’s production reflects metamorphosis, evident in the juxtapositions of colour, texture, and shape. There is a mystical, anthropological, and even magical quality to his work. This alchemistic and metaphysical desire to bridge spiritual and physical reality has been a running theme that Whiten has followed throughout his career.
