Crazy About Curling - Canadian Olympic Committee at the WAG

2014 Canadian Olympic Curling Team

Last Mondayat the WAG, Olympic fever burned as the men’s and women’s 2014 Winter Olympic curling teams were officially announced at a morning press conference.

The Skylight Gallery was lit with appropriately glacial blue lights, backdrops were set up and the official Olympic Curling Team sweaters were neatly folded on a nearby table. The excitement in the air was palpable, the space buzzing with media and onlookers waiting for their glimpse at the future Olympians, slated to represent Canada in Sochi in February.

Steve Podborski was the animated emcee, recalling for some of us the bygone glories of Canadian Olympic victories past. The athletes were heartily congratulated by Marcel Aubut, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee, Greg Stremlaw, Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Curling Association and the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Those of us huddled in the audience were star struck by Jennifer Jones and Brad Jacobs. For me, the Jones and Jacobs teams are the quintessential Olympic ambassadors for Canada, embodying the qualities that we’d like the world to believe that all Canadians possess:  skill, perseverance, stamina, strength, good sportsmanship and fair play.

It will be an even louder roar that will emanate from the rings all the way in Sochi, Russia as we cheer these amazing athletes on to victory!

Judy Slivinski is the Director of Development at the WAG and she is "pretty nuts" about curling and the Olympics.
