Yousuf Karsh: Regarding Heroes
From Karsh’s personal collection, over 100 iconic images of show why he was regarded as the master of 20th century photography and how significant historical figures such as Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, and Ernest Hemingway are remembered today through his portraits.
This celebration of the WAG's collection of European art spans six centuries and features over 100 works including paintings, sculpture, drawings, and decorative art. Divided into three components, it begins with the Old Masters of the 15th to 19th centuries, looking at how the course of art underwent a major transformation alongside the important social and political changes marking this period in European history. The drawing is perhaps the most spontaneous and direct expression of the artist and the second portion of the exhibition highlights important works on paper. The third part of the exhibition examines the definition and parameters of modern art, beginning with Realism and Romanticism and ending with early Abstraction.
