For example: a farmer holding a loaf of bread before a hooded boy pulling him in a rickshaw; a monkey conducting pigs in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony; a man worshipping a woman. The artist appears in various guises throughout the painting: pulling his barbed-tongued father in a rickshaw, as a street-theatre performer acting a one-man play about himself, for example.
