Join us for bi-monthly talks, videos, and tours over the lunch hour!

Coffee and tea is provided. You're welcome to bring a bag lunch if a video is being screened. If the event that day is an exhibiton tour, we suggest you come early to eat your lunch since no food is allowed in the galleries. Talks and tours are included with Gallery admission. Video programs are free.

 

Tour: Baker Lake Carvings with Dr. Stephen Borys

Join WAG Director and CEO for a fascinating look at this stunning exhibition featuring the carvings of twelve Baker Lake artists whose careers span the last five decades, the earliest piece from 1960 and the most recent from 2002.

Located just outside Rio de Janeiro, Jardim Gramacho, Brazil, is the world's largest garbage landfill. Modern artist Vik Muniz works with the so-called catadores, the men and women who pick through the refuse, to create art out of recycled materials. Muniz selects six of the garbage pickers to pose as subjects in a series of photographs mimicking famous paintings. In his desire to assist the catadores and change their lives, Muniz finds himself changed as well.

Talk: Arctic Adaptations: Nunavut at 15 with Architects Lola Shepherd and Mason White

Join architects Mason White and Lola Shepherd from the design-research studio, Lateral Office to learn about the exhibition, Arctic Adaptations: Nunavut at 15, featuring the work of Inuit carvers who have created masterful scale models of some of the best-known buildings in the territory: schools, churches, homes, hotels, research stations. Developed as a celebration of Nunavut’s fifteenth anniversary as a territory, this project, representing Canada’s entry at the 2014 Venice Biennale in Architecture, highlights the Artic for the first time.

 

Tour: L.L. FitzGerald’s Impressionist Decade, 1910-1920 with Andrew Kear

Join WAG curator of Canadian Historical Art for an enlightening tour of the exhibition, L.L. FitzGerald’s Impressionist Decade, 1910-1920, highlighting a selection of figure studies, industrial scenes, and landscapes—paintings, drawings, and prints—created by the highly celebrated Manitoba artist during the first decade of his professional career.

 

Tour: Olympus: The Greco-Roman Collections of Berlin with Angeliki Bogiatji

Wednesday April 29 at 12pm

Enjoy an inspiring tour of this monumental exhibition of ancient Greek and Roman art, the first of its kind in Canada! Dating from the 5th century BC to the 2nd century AD, Olympus features 160 magnificent treasures from the Berlin State Museums’ classical antiquities collection including marble and bronze statues and reliefs, terracotta vases and jewellery presented through the theme of gods and goddesses.
