Winnipeg glass artist Ione Thorkelsson has received the prestigious Governor General’s Arts Award in Media and Visual Arts, Saidye Bronfman Award. The only Manitoban honoured in the 2010 Awards, Thorkelsson is the second Manitoban to win the Bronfman Award, considered Canada’s most prestigious award for excellence in fine crafts.

A Kingdom Reborn: Treasures from Ukrainian Galicia, a stunning film that brings to life the remarkable cultural heritage of the Ukrainian city of Lviv, will be screened in the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Muriel Richardson Auditorium from 2 to 4pm, Sunday, February 7. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students (available at the door).

Delicate Beauty: The Ruby Ashdown Porcelain Collection, an exhibition of 18th- and 19th-century British porcelain, opens at the Winnipeg Art Gallery on January 16. The 120 works in the exhibition are part of a 280-piece collection recently donated to the WAG by Winnipeg collector Mrs. Ruby Ashdown.
