Youth Celebrated at WAG’s Gallery Ball 2011

Put on your little black dress and show it off at the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s annual Gallery Ball on Saturday, October 15. For the first time, Gallery Ball guests will be dining in the artistic splendour of the permanent collection galleries, surrounded by masterworks. The evening includes complimentary valet parking, a champagne reception, a delicious dinner by Storm Bistro, live and silent auctions, musical entertainment in the galleries, and features the exhibition William Kurelek: The Messenger.

“Our focus this year is on youth programs,” says WAG Director Stephen Borys. “Each year thousands of young people in Manitoba enjoy the WAG’s youth programs that open the doors to the joys of creativity and a love of the arts. Through art classes, school visits, Family Sundays, summer art camps, and Young Weekends they have the chance to experience all that art has to offer. Their horizons expand as they learn to see the world through other eyes. They learn to work as a team in the Saturday art classes. They spend quality time with their parents or grandparents at Family Sundays. Our new summer art camps were sold out, with waiting lists!”

Deborah Thorlakson, Chair of the Ball’s planning committee, comments, "Planning an event in a gallery of this stature will always provide an opportunity to expand one’s visual horizons and this year's Gala will not disappoint. The experience of dining in a milieu surrounded by masterpieces throughout the ages will be truly mesmerizing. Combining that with the knowledge that your support of this event will benefit children through the many arts programs the WAG offers will only serve to enhance what already promises to be a splendid evening."

When visitors attend the Gallery Ball they are supporting the WAG’s initiative to provide opportunities for youth to explore and practice creativity and imagination in safe and fun environment. Individual tickets are $225, corporate tables of 8 are $2,500. Buy your tickets at wag.ca/events/gallery ball, or contact Doren Roberts at events@wag.ca or call 789-1765.
