Art & Soul 2015 Another Sell-Out Success for WAG

Winnipeg, Manitoba, February 18, 2015: Art & Soul: The Lucid Dream, the latest iteration of the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s annual fundraiser, was a sellout, raising thousands of dollars for the WAG.

Art & Soul: The Lucid Dream, held Saturday, January 31, was inspired by the WAG’s Dalí Up Close and Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery exhibitions that feature Surrealist work by Salvador Dalí. The event transformed the WAG into a series of surreal dreamscapes, with hundreds of costumed guests experiencing fantastic sights and sounds in support of the Gallery.

“Art & Soul is all about connecting with the community,” comments WAG Director & CEO Dr. Stephen Borys. “This year’s event certainly achieved that goal, bringing in over 800 guests from all over the city to the WAG, some for the first time, for a fun evening of music, costumes, and great art.”

Highlights of the event’s décor included nearly 1,000 custom-made crows hung from the ceiling of the Gallery, and a giant clock that acted as the backdrop for the main stage. Guests came wearing an impressive variety of surreal costumes, from animal heads and green fairies to artists like Frida Kahlo and Dalí himself. The result was dreamlike with musical entertainment by Attica Riots, DJ Hunnicutt, DJ Co-op, Mama Cutsworth, and Ashy + Zuki of Jams.

“We couldn’t be happier with how the event turned out and we hope everyone who attended had a fantastic time,” said Tim Horn, Marketing Co-chair for Art & Soul: The Lucid Dream. “Fundraisers like Art & Soul are incredibly important for the WAG as the funds raised ensure the Gallery continues presenting exciting exhibits and educational experiences for years to come.”

The planning committee for Art & Soul: The Lucid Dream consisted of: Cody Chomiak, Karli Colpitts, Terry Gallagher, Signy Gerrard, Anthony Gindin, Amanda Green, Matt Hagen, Tim Horn, Mandy Hyatt, Rhonda Kennedy, Ryan Krahn, Ryan Lewis, Lindsay MacKenzie, Alan McGreevy, Karly Sullivan, Evan Taylor, Jenna Wiklund, and Melissa Wilkinson.
