WAG Announces Big Plans for Nuit Blanche and Culture Days

Winnipeg, Manitoba, September 26, 2017: The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) is gearing up for Nuit Blanche Winnipeg and Culture Days Manitoba on Saturday, September 30. All galleries will be free from 11am-5pm for national Culture Days. The Gallery will re-open from 6pm-4am for Nuit Blanche, a free, all-night celebration of contemporary art with music, dance, film, and access to exhibitions such as INSURGENCE/RESURGENCE, Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven, and more. Plus, the WAG’s ART EXPRESS’D/ ART EXPRIMÉ mobile art studios will be active at The Forks, offering even more interactive art activities!

“Nuit Blanche@WAG creates such a fun and energetic vibe throughout the building,” comments Stephen Borys, WAG Director & CEO. “It’s great to see the community attend and take in the fantastic line-up of events this year alongside the tremendous backdrop of INSURGENCE/RESURGENCE.”

This year’s festivities start with street-side installations from the INSURGENCE/RESURGENCE exhibit, leading you on a contemporary art journey throughout the Gallery. Dance the night away with non-stop music by local DJs and new media projections by Matt Smith and Video Pool Media Arts Centre. Create a one-of-a-kind artful button using recycled paper at the political button-making station, inspired by INSURGENCE/RESURGENCE. Pop in the Muriel Richardson Auditorium and check out the premiere screening of GLOFLO, a glow-in-the-dark yoga time-lapse video produced on the WAG rooftop in partnership with Yoga Public.

Need to put some pep back in your step? Take a break and grab a sweet or savoury treat from the snack bar, and chill with friends in our relax lounge on the main floor.

Nuit Blanche@WAG is a free event. Visitors may pay $10 to skip the line, which moves at the same pace as the general line, but will be shorter.

Be sure to visit the canopy at The Forks to check out the three ART EXPRESS’D/ ART EXPRIMÉ shipping-containers-turned-mobile-art-studios that travelled across Canada this summer with the WAG’s Signature Canada 150 project. Meet the ART EXPRESS’D artists, Jessie Buchanan, Evin Collis, and Becky Thiessen, and leave your mark on a giant collaborative artwork.
