WAG to Host Launch of Margruite Krahn’s Book on Mennonite Patterns

January 4, 2018: The Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Gallery Shop are pleased to host the book launch of Resurfacing: Mennonite Floor Patterns, A Field Journal by artist Margruite Krahn. The free event takes place on January 12, 6:30-9pm.

Resurfacing chronicles Krahn’s discoveries as she restored, presented, and documented Neubergthal, an 1876 Mennonite Street Village and National Historic Site. Krahn uncovered hand-painted patterns on the floor boards of housebarns, which were typically painted by women in villages during the winter months. The experience significantly influenced her artistic practice; much of Krahn’s work reflects the art and craft of early Mennonite women, while taking on a contemporary design. An exhibit of her work, Resurfacing: Mennonite Floor Patterns, is on view at the WAG’s Gallery Shop until January 14, 2018.
