The Arthur King collection was a significant gift to the WAG in the late 1980s and 1990s. Featuring work from important manufacturers such as Gallé, Loetz-Witwe, Steuben, Tiffany, Lalique, and Sabino, the works in glass and metal form a major part of the WAG’s Art Nouveau and Art Deco collections. This pair of candlesticks from Tiffany is a fine example of late Art Nouveau. They feature three elegant, elongated stems rising from lion paw feet, sweeping upwards to an urn-shaped receptacle upheld by three supports in the classic Art Nouveau whiplash-line profile. Made of bronze with a gilt intaglio finish, the candlesticks are characteristic of the luxurious works produced by Tiffany Studios, established and led by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933).
