Workshops

5 day summer workshop for adults or teens

Workshops are designed in conjunction with current exhibitions or to present media and techniques not covered in our regular classes. Students will view the work on display and work hands on with an instructor in the studio. This is a great opportunity to to stimulate ideas, explore a medium and deepen understanding of artists and their art.

This workshop runs for five afternoons (Mon-Fri 12-4pm). Immerse yourself in creative activities for a full week and use a variety of drawing and painting media, and work on a 3D project. The week-long format will allow for projects to develop over more than one class. All supplies are included.

Drawing Basics

By focusing on colour while using media such as oil pastels, chalk pastels, art sticks and other materials, you will develop your ability to depict multiple aspects of nature. Individual interpretations of the subject matter is encouraged. Weather permitting, we will work outside as much as possible!

Painting

Prerequisite: Drawing Basics or equivalent experience
This beginners’ course will introduce you to basic colour theory and handling of your choice of either acrylic or water soluable oil paints. You’ll work from still life arrangements, do colour exercises, and learn about basic elements such as composition and shape, and how colour is used to create a sense of depth. Critiques will help you gain an understanding of what is involved in making a well-composed painting.

For students with little or no drawing experience, this introduction to the fundamental techniques and concepts of drawing will sharpen observational skills and build confidence. Practice translating what you see into what you draw as you work with a variety of subjects, including still life studies and the human form.

Open Studio

Pottery Drop in For Adults

This is a new service for adult pottery students currently enrolled in our pottery classes.  With no instruction given, enjoy honing your skills and spending more time in the studio. Approval from your WAG instructor to do the drop in is required. All pottery drop in students are expected to clean up after themselves, as the studio is shared with other classes.  No advance registration is required; payment is collected each week at the WAG Studio reception. Bring your own supplies. Use of clay is limited to one box per student provided in the pottery class you enrolled in.
