Workshops

Inuit Storytelling and Storybook-Making Workshops

view…

In collaboration with Nunavik, Quebec artists Qumaq Mangiuk Iyaituk and Mattiusi Iyaituk sculptor and storyteller, and Montreal artist Kathryn Delaney invite the Inuit and Non-Inuit public of Winnipeg to participate in open, culturally safe, healing storytelling and Storybook-making workshops. Inuit elders will share their personal stories —“Our reality. Our everyday life and culture”—while workshop participants create original artwork and transcribe oral Inuit history into Inuktitut syllabics, or in English or French. The results will challenge and provoke the notion of what Inuit culture is, break down stereotypes and educate the Canadian public, while empowering Inuit identity.

All art supplies are provided and all skill levels are welcome. Spaces are limited to 15 people per date. Location of workshop will be in the Lecture Room on the main floor of the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

This workshop is free of charge thanks to the support from The Canada Council for the Arts, along with its partners, The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation and The Circle on Philanthropy and Aboriginal Peoples in Canada
