Experience the satisfaction of crafting something with your hands alongside like-minded adventurers. You don’t need to be a practising artist to participate...just come, relax, and have fun!

MakerLab: L&R Studio

Lisa Schroeder of L&R Studio teaches you the skills necessary to hand build two ceramic pinch pot planters based on their popular “Pot Head” designs. You will create a wall planter and a stand-alone planter. Familiar with adding modelled elements to her own work, Lisa will be instructing participants on how to add faces (or whatever else!) to their planters. Give your plants a new home!
Planters will be available for pick up 2 weeks after the MakerLab.

Ages 14 and up. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

You’ll immerse yourself in creative activities for a full week in a stimulating environment using a variety of drawing and painting media, as well as working on a 3D project. You’ll immerse yourself in your creative activities for a full week in a stimulating environment. Supply lists will be forwarded to registrants in advance of the workshops (classes run from 10am to 4pm with a 1hour lunch break). Students make their own lunch arrangements. Storm Restaurant is conveniently located in the Gallery’s penthouse.

Painting

Prerequisite: Drawing 1 or equivalent experience
This beginning course in acrylic painting introduces you to basic colour theory and handling of acrylic paints. You’ll work from still life arrangements, do colour exercises and learn about basic elements such as compotision and shpae, and how colour is used to create a sense of depth. Critiques will help you gain an understanding of what is involved in making a painting work well.

By focusing on colour while using media such as oil pastels, chalk pastels, art sticks and other materials, you will develop your ability to depict multiple aspects of nature. Individual interpretations of the subject matter will be encouraged. Weather permitting, we will work outside as much as possible.
