MakerLab: Minimalist Necklaces

Learn how to assemble two necklaces with Monique Espino of Lovely Moons, a Winnipeg-based jewellery line, using either geometric beads or crystal pendants. Customize both necklaces for yourself or give one as a gift.

Includes all jewellery materials and a tool kit.

MakerLab: Shibori Fabric Dyeing

Learn the art of Shibori, an ancient Japanese method of resist dyeing. Tamara Klassen will cover a variety of techniques by folding and binding cloth to create different patterns, as you learn how to set up and dye with an indigo vat. You will go home with three 100% cotton 27” square finished textiles and the skills to dye many more pieces on your own. These unique pieces are suitable for making tea towels, wall art, bandanas, pillows, and more! Wear clothing you don’t mind getting dye on.

Ages 14 and up. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Observe how light affects colour and learn colour theory, composition, drawing and  painting techniques while exploring the styles of French Modernist painters Henri Matisse, Claude Monet , Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Jean-François Millet. Students will meet in the studio on the first day, and go to other locations during the course of the week.

(Adult) Weeklong Workshop in Drawing Basics

These workshops run five full days (Mon to Fri). Each course consists of 25 hours (5 hours each day) of class time. You’ll immerse yourself in your creative activities for a full week in a stimulating environment. Supply lists will be forwarded to registrants in advance of the workshops (classes run from 10am to 4pm with a 1 hour lunch break). Students make their own lunch arrangements. Storm Restaurant is conveniently located in the Gallery’s penthouse.

Drawing Basics

By focusing on colour while using media such as oil pastels, chalk pastels, art sticks and other materials, you will develop your ability to depict multiple aspects of nature. Individual interpretations of the subject matter is encouraged. Weather permitting, we will work outside as much as possible!

Child and teen classes are structured to accommodate the abilities of different age levels. These fun-filled classes develop skills in various media, sparkling creativity and imagination. Artist instructors are paired with classes based on experience and area of specialization. Winter sessions each consist of 10 classes, with the exception of Clayworks.

Open Studio

Pottery Drop in For Adults

This is a new service for adult pottery students currently enrolled in our pottery classes.  With no instruction given, enjoy honing your skills and spending more time in the studio. Approval from your WAG instructor to do the drop in is required. All pottery drop in students are expected to clean up after themselves, as the studio is shared with other classes.  No advance registration is required; payment is collected each week at the WAG Studio reception. Bring your own supplies. Use of clay is limited to one box per student provided in the pottery class you enrolled in.
