Dianne holds a BFA (Hons) from the University of Manitoba specializing in ceramics and drawing. She has instructed adults and children's art classes at the WAG since 1994. Her aim as an artist is to create pieces which are joyful and pleasurable to use. Nature is her inspiration, where natural and geometric patterns co-exist in harmony. The "tangled garden" is the theme for the enhancement of many of her decorative forms. When a garden is planted, it grows and develops to the dictates of nature. In the same way, when a pattern is conceived it evolves to completion. It succumbs to the inuititive process. In both instances, the end result is a surprise, each season bearing something special, and each piece having its own merit. It is through her work that she desires to inspire an unconscious reverence for the bounties of this earth.

After painting in oils for many years, Jill began to paint in watercolour in 1995. She brought to watercolour a love of strong colour and light, and a contemporary viewpoint. Her subject is largely the domestic interior as well as flowers. In her work, flowers are often used as a metaphor for the strength and fragility found in people. In her pre-occupation with light as well as colour, she seeks to capture a luminosity which is unique to the medium. Her work may be seen at www.jillbrooks.net.
