15 Minutes is a series of artist salon evenings open to everyone. It’s an opportunity for artists to present, discuss, and get feedback about their art practice in an informal and friendly atmosphere. • Free admission*. 

Bring in some examples of your own artwork (images or original works**) to discuss with other artists in the community, or just drop by to join in the discussions. It’s a chance to “show and tell” us what you are up to, and to see what others are doing. 15 Minutes runs once every month.

You don’t have to be a practicing artist to enjoy this program.
Come out, join the discussion, and see what Winnipeg artists are creating.

15 Minutes is limited to four artists’ presentations per evening, so submit early. Once a session is full, we will begin scheduling artists for the next.

Please email art-educator@wag.ca with the following information. If you do not have access to email, please call 789.0516. We will notify you of the date of your presentation.

• Name and phone number
• All presenters must submit three images (digital or hardcopies) of the artwork they wish to present. Images may be emailed to the above address. Hardcopies/photographs must be dropped off at the front desk in an envelope addressed to 15 Minutes. Feel free to talk about more than 3 works in your presentations. We just want to get a sense of what you’re making before that time.
• Detail any audio-visual requirements needed to show your work (i.e. powerpoint, projector screen, slide projector, easel, DVD player)

Secrets and symbolism of Canada’s most famous art group come to light in a lecture by bestselling author Ross King. King’s forthcoming book exposes how–despite their professed nationalism the Group of Seven incorporated a number of international trends. A.Y. Jackson and Lawren Harris, for instance, studied and travelled extensively in Germany and France, while F.H. Varley worked for the Canadian War Memorials Fund in London. Ross King will reveal the previously cloaked effects that these European experiences had on the Group’s iconic, much-loved artworks.

Ross King moved from writing historical fiction to histories and biographies with the publication in 2000 of Brunelleschi’s Dome: The Story of the Great Cathedral in Florence, the design and building of the dome of the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, completed in 1436. It was on the bestseller lists of the New York Times, the Boston Globe, and the San Francisco Chronicle and was the recipient of several awards. This was followed by Michelangelo and the Pope’s Ceiling (2002), tracing the four years that Michelangelo spent painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel amid the political and religious intrigues of early 16th century Rome. It was nominated for a National Book Critics Circle Award. In 2006, The Judgment of Paris: The Revolutionary Decade That Gave the World Impressionism chronicled the dramatic transition by which the Impressionist painters changed the artistic vision of the late 19th and early 20th century. It was the recipient of the 2006 Governor-General’s Award for Non-Fiction. In 2007 he completed Machiavelli: Philosopher of Power, a biography of Niccolò Machiavelli that illustrates the personal, social, and political development of one of history’s most famous political theorists.
