Storm and Spirit The Eckhardt-Gramatté Collection of German Expressionist Art
An Evening with Sonia: Eckhardt-Gramatté’s Complete Works for Violin and Piano Duo
Begins: Wednesday February 26, 2014
Due to illness, the WAG has rescheduled this event for Wednesday, February 26.
In celebration of the exhibition Storm and Spirit: The Eckhardt-Gramatté Collection of German Expressionist Art we have put together a very special performance of Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté’s Complete Works for Violin and Piano Duo, featuring Oleg Pokhanovski, violin & Megumi Masaki, piano.
A champion of Eckhardt-Gramatté’s music, Megumi Masaki has recorded CDs of her piano works, published a performance edition of the Piano Caprices, made her film debut in a CBC Opening Night film on Eckhardt-Gramatté, and is the Artistic Director of the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition. Worldwide she has premiered over a hundred works composed specifically for her. She is on the faculty of the Casalmaggiore Festival in Italy, and is Associate Professor of Piano and Director of the New Music Ensemble & Festival at Brandon University.
Russian-born violinist Oleg Pokhanovski has recorded Eckhardt-Gramatté’s duo works for piano and violin with Megumi Masaki. Called the “Russian Paganini,” he has performed over 2,000 concerts around the world including Russia, Serbia, Israel, the US, Germany, Poland, Canada, and The Netherlands. He is currently Professor of Violin at the University of Manitoba
