This symposium explores aspects of German Expressionism between the years 1900-1925. Coinciding with the exhibition Storm and Spirit: The Eckhardt-Gramatté Collection of German Expressionist Art, this international conference features a keynote address by Dr. Christian Weikop, a specialist in German and Austrian visual culture from the University of Edinburgh; along with Dr. Anabelle Kienle Ponka, Assistant Curator of European and American Art at the National Gallery of Canada; Dr. Ihor Holubizky, Senior Curator at the McMaster Museum of Art; Dr. Oliver Botar, specialist in early 20th century Central European Modernism at the University of Manitoba; and Andrew Kear, WAG’s Curator of Historical Canadian Art and curator of the Storm and Spirit exhibition. Opening remarks by Dr. Stephen Borys, WAG Director.
