Patrick Treacy: The Acteon Project
Friday, February 24 to Sunday, March 19
Opening Reception • Feb 24, 6-9pm at Gallery Shop
Patrick Treacy: The Acteon Project grew from a fascination with the classical myth of a hunter, Acteon, who stumbles upon the goddess Diana while she is bathing. Acteon is transformed into a stag for this transgression and this moment of metamorphosis is what compels Treacy to portray this story. By transporting the Acteon myth to the Canadian boreal forest, the contemporary themes of colonial exploration and the disappearance of wilderness are incorporated. Through all his work, Treacy strives to create representational combinations of nature and the human; often creating sites that embody memories, dreams, pleasures, and sometimes feelings of estrangement and even terror.
Works are on display at Gallery Shop & WAG@The Forks. All works are available for purchase.
