Jack Shadbolt, 1909–1998, The Flag Mural, 1964. Enamel on canvas board, 211 x 375 cm. Confederation Centre Art Gallery and Museum.

On Friday June 14th we held our first ever homeschool event at the WAG! We had a wonderful turnout with about 70 people attending.

To start the event we split into groups and headed into the galleries for an interactive tour of 100 Masters. I had a great time with my group and they shared some wonderful insights into some of the works on display. One little boy in my group adores flags and was overjoyed when he saw Jack Shadbolt's The Flag Mural! Therefore, we spent a few moments trying to identify some of the countries represented and talking about Canada's multiculturalism. After the tour we headed downstairs for a multimedia art making activity followed by cookies and juice (and coffee for the adults).

We were thrilled with the event and hope to plan other similar ones in the future. What other family or school programs would you be interested in seeing us offer? How many countries can you identify in The Flag Mural? Please leave your comments below!
