Recently, I've been getting many questions from visitors to the WAG about places to eat in the area. Since there are only a couple weeks left of 100 Masters, I thought it would be a good time to cover some of the restaurants in the area.
Tip: You can leave and re-enter the gallery after you've paid admission for the day as long as you keep your coloured admission tag. So feel free to step out and grab a latté and come back!
Mon*-Fri: 11am-3pm *only open on Mondays for 100 Masters
Sat & Sun: 11am-2pm
Storm is conveniently located in the Penthouse level of the WAG. However they are only open for lunch and their dining space is small so I would suggest making a reservation if you plan on visiting the galleries then eating during 100 Masters or any other large blockbuster. Some staff favourites at Storm include the Chicken Fingers with Sweet Curry Fries and the Triple Grilled Cheese. Also note, that you are welcome to Storm without paying admission to the gallery, just take the elevators to the Penthouse level.
Stella's is already a Winnipeg favourite and I was delighted when they moved into the Buhler Centre next door to the WAG. Delicious food, reasonable prices, and late hours make Stella's a great option for dining before or after your visit to the galleries. Since Stella's is so popular I would suggest planning accordingly, leaving a little extra time to wait for a table if you're planning on going during prime hours. Besides great food I also love Stella's Chai Lattés and London Fogs.
Thurs & Fri: 11am-12am
Desert Sinsations is right behind the WAG and shares a parking lot with Perth's. This is another great option especially due to their proximity to the WAG and their late hours. This is the priciest restaurant on the list but their food is great and as their name suggests, their deserts are amazing. Also, I've had yet to try it but I've been told that they have the best hot chocolate in the world.
Soups, Sandwiches, & More
Soups, Sandwiches, & More is on Graham just on the other side of The Bay, a very short walk to the WAG. I've always had a great experience at this restaurant. The food is good, the servers are always quick and friendly, and the prices are fantastic. If you are craving delicious homemade soup, this is definitely the place to go. Besides their expansive menu they offer a variety of soups every day, my absolute favourite being the Rustic Lentil.
Sat & Sun: closed
Twist is a bit further from the gallery, located on Graham just before the RWB. The food at Twist never disappoints. They provide high quality sandwiches, salads, and soups at a decent price. My favourite is the Focaccia Sandwich. Twist also has a penchant for offering creative coffee beverages so be sure to check out their sandwich board out front for their specials.
What are your favourite places to eat downtown by the WAG? This list is by no means comprehensive, so please leave any other suggestions you may have in the comments below!
