In their varied scale, form, and surface treatment, Robert Archambeau’s ceramic works offer a remarkable palette of colours, textures, and glazes.

One piece leads to another, one form connects with another, one marking is linked to another–and the viewer is left with something more, something greater than one artwork or one expression. But in their diversity of style, there is also incredible unity and harmony in his oeuvre.

This exhibition presents over 40 ceramic pieces by Archambeau produced over several decades. Recalling studio visits and conversations over the years, the curatorial aspiration with this show is to recreate–or perhaps recall–some of those moments with the artist in his space with his vessels.

Robert Archambeau: A Conversation in Clay coincides with the 50th anniversary of the artist’s tenure as an instructor—now professor emeritus—at the University of Manitoba School of Art. It is an extraordinary legacy of studio excellence, academic prowess, and mentorship—reflecting the enduring beauty and power of clay in the hands of the artist.
