We invite you to join the visionary group of supporters building Qaumajuq (formerly the Inuit art centre) so that the power of art and culture can connect people, build bridges of understanding, and bring us together to envision a better future.

Many families, businesses and individuals from across the country and around the globe have contributed to the centre’s building campaign and programming fund. We need your support to secure the final $10-million in funding.

This incredible centre will be a legacy to inspire and engage generations to come. Art is a Voice that connects and transforms. You can be part of this transformation.

Celebrating a World-Renowned Collection of Art One Story at a Time.

Philanthropist Bob Williams is matching donations!

“I hope you’ll join me in helping to build this important and iconic museum. Qaumajuq will soon celebrate its grand opening and I know that, like me, you will feel enormously proud when you walk through the doors and can say, ‘I helped create this’”. ~ Bob Williams

Art is a voice that invites a response. When you enter Qaumajuq, you will be met by a three-story glass vault showcasing thousands of carvings from the world’s largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art. By adding your name, you can help build Qaumajuq. Learn More

Construction Timeline

May 25, 2018

After years of planning, the Winnipeg Art Gallery was thrilled to break ground for Qaumajuq – the Inuit art centre, a new home for the largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art in the world.

August 2018

The driving of 169 piles to support the building is now complete, including four steel piles to support the on-site tower crane.

March 2019

Steel structures are being constructed.

August 2019

The “bones” of the new Qaumajuq building are being put in place. Installation of close to 600 tons of structural steel is underway and the outline of the building is revealing itself.

September 2019

There are approximately 925 beams that have been put in place so far, with another 900 to go before the new building is completely framed.

October 2019

The framing of the building and visible vault taking shape.

November 2019

Construction continues at an energetic pace to insulate and close in the walls and roof of the centre before the arrival of real winter weather. As well, the bridges connecting the WAG to Qaumajuq have been cut in the exterior walls.

January 2020

The building is now closed in and protected from the elements. The composition of the outside walls of Qaumajuq have been completed, with the stone to be installed in the spring, the roof is finished and the insulation is almost done. Inside the building, the steel structural support of the three-story visible vault is now complete.

March 2020

Interior spaces of the centre begin to take shape including the visible vault, the new cafe, gallery spaces, and elevators.

May 2020

Progress continues on the interior of Qaumajuq.

August 2020

Installation of the exterior brick begins on Qaumajuq.

September 2020

Thank You!

We thank the supporters who are building the world’s first Inuit art centre – Qaumajuq.
